The Secure Access Software Layer (SASL) protects against unauthorized and fraudulent utilization of credit or debit cards. As an additional software layer, SASL uses the existing cards, point-of-sale (POS) equipment and transaction infrastructure, yet enhances the level of security without the heavy costs of equipment and card replacement. SASL includes three main components: 1. The dynamic Personal Identification Number (PIN) 2. The logical card concept 3. The card configurator The dynamic PIN scheme is an innovative method combining a Personal Access Code (PAC), a x-digit Dynamic Access Filter (DAF) and a multi-dimensional look-up table (called Personal Access Matrix (PAM)) to generate a dynamic PIN for each transaction. The logical card concept is based on a set of pre-configurable conditions to validate all logical card transactions. The card configurator is an automated tool to allow the cardholder to configure his card utilization through the Internet, voice communication or banking devices.
