ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to a method and apparatus for separating a sheet of glass along a score line on the sheet. The method involves flexing the glass at the score line along an axis of flexure on a support member and prestressing the glass to a level below the critical stress level, and then applying a critical stress at or above the critical stress level to break the glass along the score line. The apparatus includes a support for the sheet, including a fulcrum defining an axis of flexure for alignment with the score line, and at least two pressure members spaced above and on each side of the score line. At least one of the pressure members or the fulcrum has a resiliently deformable cushioning surface thereon.
