ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A novel sled is provided which consists of a solid shield- shaped bottom part which in turn is composed of at least two sections which are connected to each other by means of a band of hinges. Its sliding surface is formed as the outer surface of a hollow shell which also includes handles and a seating surface which is preferably made of soft material. The solid construction of the shield prevents significant deformation which, in turn, ensures good sliding motion since in this manner no snow will accumulate at the front. Changes of direction are induced by taking the load off one of the two sections. If the sled is folded up, it can easily be carried and may furthermore be used as a coat hanger.
