A sol-gel method of preparing a powder for use in forming a glass is provided, along with methods of preparing glasses and glass fibers from the powder. The inventive method allows for the incorporation of a wide range of elements and compositions into a homogeneous glass or glass fiber that is substantially free of hydroxide groups. In addition, dopants incorporated into glasses prepared by the inventive method are uniformly distributed throughout the glass structure.

L'invention concerne un procédé sol-gel de préparation d'une poudre destinée à une utilisation dans le moulage de verre, ainsi que des procédés de préparation de verres et de fibres de verre à partir de la poudre. Le procédé selon l'invention permet d'intégrer divers éléments et compositions dans un verre ou une fibre de verre homogène essentiellement libre de groupes hydroxydes. Par ailleurs, des dopants intégrés dans les verres fabriqués selon l'invention sont uniformément distribués dans la structure du verre.
