A straw assembly (10) has a flexible first segment (16) with at least one longitudinal glide ridge (24) extending outwardly from a drinking end (38). The first segment (16) has a retaining shoulder (18) at a fixed distance from the drinking end (38) and an orienting finger (22) extending from the retaining shoulder (18) to fit in a recess (34) on a lid (28) to hold the straw assembly (10) in position so that the longitudinal glide ridges (24) face the sealing cap (36).
