A method for inhibiting and/or ameliorating the occurrence of diseases associated with reactive oxygen species, reactive nitrogen species, radicals and/or non-radicals in a subject whereby a subject is administered a carotenoid structural analog, either alone or in combination with another carotenoid analog, or co-antioxidant formulation. The analog or analog combination is administered such that the subject's risk of experiencing diseases associated with reactive oxygen species, reactive nitrogen species, radicals and/or non-radicals may be thereby reduced. The analog or analog combination may be administered to a subject for the inhibition and/or amelioration of ischemia-reperfusion injury. The analog or analog combination may be administered to a subject for the inhibition and/or amelioration of liver disease. The analog or analog combination may be administered to a subject for the inhibition and/or amelioration of cancer. The analog or analog combination may be administered to a subject for the inhibition and/or amelioration of cardiac arrhythmia and/or sudden cardiac death. The analog or analog combination may be administered to a subject for the inhibition and/or amelioration of any disease that involves production of reactive oxygen species, reactive nitrogen species, radicals and/or non-radicals. In one embodiment, a water-soluble and/or water-dispersible astaxanthin analog is particularly effective. This invention further includes pharmaceutical compositions comprising structural carotenoid analogs either alone or in combination.
La présente invention a trait à un procédé permettant l'inhibition et/ou la réduction de la survenance de maladies liées à des espèces d'oxygène réactif, les espèces d'azote réactif, les radicaux et/ou les non radicaux chez un sujet dans lequel on administre au sujet un analogue de caroténoïde structural, soit seul ou en combinaison avec un autre analogue de caroténoïde, ou une formulation co-antioxydante. On administre l'analogue ou la combinaison d'analogues de manière à réduire le risque du sujet de contracter les maladies liées aux espèces d'oxygène réactif, aux espèces d'azote réactif, aux radicaux et/ou aux non radicaux. L'analogue ou la combinaison d'analogues peut être administré à un sujet pour l'inhibition et/ou la réduction de la lésion ischémique au retour de la perfusion. L'analogue ou la combinaison d'analogues peut être administré à un sujet pour l'inhibition et/ou la réduction du maladie du foie. L'analogue ou la combinaison d'analogues peut être administré à un sujet pour l'inhibition et/ou la réduction du cancer. L'analogue ou la combinaison d'analogues peut être administré à un sujet pour l'inhibition et/ou la réduction de l'arythmie cardiaque et/ou la mort cardiaque subite. L'analogue ou la combinaison d'analogues peut être administré à un sujet pour l'inhibition et/ou la réduction de toute maladie impliquant la production d'espèces d'oxygène réactif, d'espèces d'azote réactif, des radicaux et/ou des non radicaux. Dans un mode de réalisation, un analogue d'astaxanthine hydrosoluble et/ou dispersable dans l'eau est particulièrement efficace. L'invention a également trait à des compositions pharmaceutiques comprenant des analogues de caroténoïde structuraux seuls ou en combinaison.
