A combination is provided of a first member attached to a building member. The building member is made from a composite wood material and has a longitudinally extending outer wall enclosing a cavity. The building member also has a longitudinally extending medial web extending between two positions on the interior surface of said outer wall to divide said cavity longitudinally into two. The first member is connected to the composite wood building member by securing hardware such as wood screws. To make the connection the securing hardware passes through the first member, through the outer wall of the building member, through part of the divided cavity and into the medial web. The outer wall preferably has a top wall and a bottom wall interconnected by two side walls. The medial web extends between the top wall and the bottom wall. The securing hardware passes from the first member through a side wall into the medial web of the building member.
