The invention is directed to sulfonyl aromatic hydroxamic acid compounds and salts thereof that, inter alia, inhibit matrix metalloprotease (MMP) activity and/or aggrecanase activity. In some particularly preferred embodiments, the compound corresponds in structure to one of the following formulas: (I) (II) wherein W2, the R groups, and -A-R-E-Y are described in more detail in Applicants'specification. This invention also is directed to a process that comprises administering such a compound or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof to a host animal having a condition associated with MMP activity.
L'invention se rapporte à des composés d'acide hydroxamique aromatique de sulfonyle et à leurs sels qui inhibent, entre autres, l'activité de la métalloprotéase matricielle MMP et/ou l'activité de l'aggrécanase. Selon certains modes de réalisation particulièrement préférés, le composé correspond en termes structurels à l'une des formules suivantes, dans lesquelles W2, les groupes R et -A-R-E-Y sont décrits de manière plus détaillée dans le descriptif du déposant. Cette invention se rapporte également à un procédé consistant à administrer un tel composé ou son sel pharmaceutiquement acceptable à un animal hôte présentant une pathologie associée à l'activité MMP.
