The invention provides a lightweight survey marker that is made from biodegradable paper and thin hardwood dowels, thereby being not harmful to the environment when abandoned in the field. A hole in the flag allows the flags to be carried on the dowel of one marker, and also serves to hold seismic charge lead wires off the ground when the marker is used as a seismic line marker.
