A suture anchor (5) having an an- chor member (10), a central shaft (20) and outwardly extending wing members (60). A suture mounting pole is provided in the suture anchor for receiving a surgical su- ture. The suture anchor is inserted into a bore hole in a bone as part of an orthopedic surgical procedure wherein soft tissue such as a tendon is attached to the surface of the bone. The wings may have cutting edges (70) or piercing points (140). The suture anchors may have screw threads (170) on their outer surfaces.
