A method and apparatus for removing the needle portion of a hypodermic syringe and simultaneously sterilizing and destroying the needle portion of a hypodermic syringe, eliminating the risk of infection by microorganisms that may be present in or on the needle. When a syringe is inserted into the apparatus, the needle is heated to a temperature sufficient to inactivate any virus, bacteria, yeast, or other microorganism remaining on or within the needle. The needle also is cut at the location of melting so that the needle is removed from the remaining portion of the syringe. Heating and cutting elements (146, 165a) are part of a disposable cartridge (112), which also contains the cut-off needle portions.
Cette invention a trait à un procédé ainsi qu'à un appareil permettant de retirer la partie aiguille d'une seringue hypodermique tout en stérilisant et détruisant cette partie, ce qui a pour effet d'éliminer les risques d'infection par des micro-organismes pouvant être présents dans ou sur l'aiguille. Lorsque l'on introduit la seringue dans l'appareil, l'aiguille est chauffée à une température suffisante pour inactiver tout virus, bactéries, levures ou autres micro-organismes restés sur l'aiguille ou à l'intérieur de celle-ci. L'aiguille est également sectionnée à l'endroit où elle est mise à fondre, ce qui permet de la séparer de la seringue proprement dite. Les éléments de chauffe et de coupe (146, 165a) font partie d'une cartouche jetable (112) contenant également les parties d'aiguilles coupées.
