An optical switch incorporating MEMS technology and lensed tapered optical fibers achieves less than 0.5 dB in either a thru (cross) or reflected (bar) state. Insertion loss as low as about 0.1 dB in a 2X2 switch in the cross configuration is achieved when anti-reflective coatings are included on the lensed tapered fiber ends. In a particular embodiment a bi-stable MEMS switch with an electro-static comb drive actuator is used.

Selon cette invention, il est possible de former un commutateur optique intégrant une technologie de systèmes microélectromécaniques et des fibres optiques coniques, lenticulaires, inférieur à 0,5 dB, soit à l'état de croisement, soit à l'état réfléchi. Une perte d'insertion a lieu au niveau le plus faible de 0,1 dB environ dans un commutateur 2x2 en configuration croisée lorsque des revêtements antiréfléchissants sont inclus dans les extrémités coniques lenticulaires des fibres. Selon une réalisation spécifique, on utilise un commutateur bistable intégrant des systèmes microélectromécaniques avec un actionneur de commande de peigne électrostatique.
