Therapeutic antimicrobial compositions and methods for providing enhanced immediate and residual anti-viral and antibacterial efficacy against rhinovirus, rotavirus, coronovirus, respiratory syricytial virus, Gram- positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria and combinations thereof. More specifically, therapeutic antimicrobial compositions comprising an organic acid or organic acid mixture and a short-chain anionic surfactant having at least one of a large head group; a branched alkyl chain and an unsaturated alkyl chain, and therapeutic methods of use thereof.

L'invention concerne des compositions antimicrobiennes et des méthodes thérapeutiques permettant de produire un effet antiviral et antibactérien amélioré, immédiat et résiduel, contre les rhinovirus, les rotavirus, les coronavirus, le virus respiratoire syncytial, les bactéries Gram-positif, les bactéries Gram-négatif, et les combinaisons de ces derniers. L'invention concerne plus spécifiquement des compositions antimicrobiennes contenant un acide organique, ou un mélange d'acide organique et d'un tensioactif anionique à chaîne courte comprenant au moins une des caractéristiques suivantes: une tête polaire de grande taille, une chaîne alkyle ramifiée, et une chaîne alkyle insaturée, ainsi que des méthodes d'utilisation de ces compositions à des fins thérapeutiques.
