A selectively activated time-temperature integrating device for providing a visually observable indication of cumulative thermal exposure, in which a viscoelastic material migrates into a diffusely light-reflective porous matrix at a rate which varies with temperature to progressively change the light transmissivity of the porous matrix and thereby provide the visually observable indication. The viscoelastic material can comprise a pressure sensitive adhesive. The visually observable indication can comprise latent indicia which initially are not visible and become visible, obscurable indicia which initially are visible and become obscured, or a combination of both. Various actuating means for selectively switching the indicator from an unactivated state to an activated state are described. Also disclosed are a method for providing a visually observable indication of cumulative thermal exposure and a method for providing a time and temperature integrating device for providing a visually observable indication of cumulative thermal exposure of an object.
Dispositif activé sélectivement intégrant temps et température destiné à fournir une indication observable visuellement d'une exposition thermique cumulative, dans lequel une matière visco-élastique migre jusque dans une matrice poreuse photoréfléchissante de manière diffuse à une vitesse variant avec la température, afin de changer progressivement la phototransmissivité de la matrice poreuse et ainsi donner l'indication observable visuellement. La matière visco-élastique peut comprendre un adhésif autocollant. L'indication observable visuellement peut comprendre des marques latentes initialement invisibles et devenant visibles, des marques masquables initialement visibles et devenant masquées, ou une combinaison de celle-ci. Divers moyens d'actionnement destinés à commuter sélectivement l'indicateur d'un état non activé à un état activé sont décrits. L'invention concerne également un procédé destiné à fournir une indication observable visuellement d'une exposition thermique cumulative ainsi qu'un procédé d'obtention d'un dispositif intégrant temps et température, destiné à donner une indication observable visuellement de l'exposition thermique cumulative d'un objet.
