A transparent shield that covers and protects the screen area of a flat panel display, such as a television, video monitor or computer display made of LCD, plasma, organic, or projection display technology. The shield protects the display area from physical damage, dust and dirt, and can be used while the display is in use and not in use. The display screen shield is made of a rigid, transparent plastic material and offset from the display surface to allow convective cooling of the display screen surface and to create an impact recoil cushion that provides additional protection to the display screen.
