A reactor chamber (2) forms part of an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine. Within the chamber (2) are electrodes (3 and 4) between which there is disposed a bed of active material (5) through which, in use, the exhaust gases pass. In the presence of an electrical discharge, driven by an electrical voltage applied across the electrodes (3 and 4), the active material (5) has a catalytic action in the reduction of nitrogenous oxides in the exhaust and also acts to remove hydrocarbons from the exhaust gases.

Une chambre de réaction (2) fait partie d'un système d'échappement d'un moteur à combustion interne. A l'intérieur de la chambre (2) se trouvent des électrodes (3, 4) entre lesquelles est disposé un lit de matière active (5) à travers lequel passent, lors de l'utilisation, les gaz d'échappement. En présence d'une décharge électrique, la matière active (5), activée par une tension électrique appliquée aux électrodes (3, 4), présente une action catalytique dans la réduction d'oxydes azotés dans l'échappement et agit également pour éliminer les hydrocarbures des gaz d'échappement.
