ABSTRACT Novel interferon proteins, produced by human trophoblasts or other means such as recombinant techniques, are provided. These novel interferon have properties indicating that they are different from known interferon, and are useful in prophylactic or therapeutic treatment of humans or other warm blooded animals, e.g. in prevention of virus transmission from infected mother to fetus during pregnancy and during labour.
