The present invention relates generally to ultradispersed bimetallic and trimetallic catalyst compositions and methods for preparing such catalysts. The bimetallic catalyst composition has a general formula: BxMyS[(1.1 to 46)y + (0.5 to 4)], where B is a Group VIII non-noble metal, M is a Group VIB metal, and 0.05<=y/x<= 15. The trimetallic catalyst composition has a general formula: BxMlyM2zO(2 to 3)zS[(0.3 to 2)y + (0.5 to 4)x], where B is a Group VIII non-noble metal, Ml & M2 are Group VIB metals, 0.05<=y/x<=15 and l<=z/x<=14. Separate microemulsions are initially prepared by mixing precursor solutions containing Group VIII metal salt with a hydrocarbon feedstock and Group VI metal salts with a sulphurizing agent and the hydrocarbon feedstock. The separate microemulsions are then mixed to form a microemulsion mixture containing the ultradispersed bimetallic or trimetallic sulphide catalyst.

La présente invention concerne d'une façon générale des compositions de catalyseurs bimétalliques et trimétalliques ultradispersés et des procédés servant à préparer de tels catalyseurs. La composition de catalyseur bimétallique répond à la formule générale : BxMyS[(1,1 à 46)y + (0,5 à 4)], où B est un métal non noble du groupe VIII, M est un métal du groupe VIB et 0,05 <= y/x <= 15. La composition de catalyseur trimétallique répond à la formule générale : BxM1yM2zO(2 à 3)zS[(0,3 à 2)y + (0,5 à 4)x], où B est un métal non noble du groupe VIII, M1 et M2 sont des métaux du groupe VIB, 0,05 <= y/x <= 15 et 1 <= z/x <= 14. On prépare initialement des microémulsions séparées en mélangeant des solutions de précurseurs contenant un sel de métal du groupe VIII avec une charge hydrocarbonée et des sels de métaux du groupe VI avec un agent sulfurant et la charge hydrocarbonée. On mélange ensuite les microémulsions séparées pour former un mélange de microémulsions contenant le catalyseur de type sulfure bimétallique ou trimétallique ultradispersé.
