An ultrasound waveguide that is attachable to an ultrasound probe so as to identify a target area on a target object. The ultrasound waveguide has an ultrasound transducer coupling means that allows an ultrasound signal to be transmitted through a guide means. The ultrasound waveguide also has a positioning means for positioning the guide means in relation to the target area on the target object. The guide means is provided with a channel that provides a discontinuity within the guide means that causes a discontinuity in the ultrasound signal emitted by the probe. The presence of this discontinuity allow for proper alignment of the ultrasound waveguide with the target object.

L'invention concerne un guide d'ondes ultrasonores pouvant être relié à une sonde ultrasonore afin d'identifier une zone cible sur un objet cible. Ce guide d'ondes comprend un moyen de couplage de transducteur ultrasonore permettant la transmission d'un signal ultrasonore à travers un moyen de guidage. Le guide d'ondes ultrasonores selon l'invention comprend également un moyen de positionnement servant à placer le moyen de guidage par rapport à la zone cible de l'objet cible. Le moyen de guidage comporte un canal qui établit une discontinuité à l'intérieur dudit moyen, ce qui provoque une discontinuité du signal ultrasonore émis par la sonde. La présence de cette discontinuité permet d'aligner correctement le guide d'ondes ultrasonores avec l'objet cible.
