An ultrathin optical panel (10), and a method of producing an ultrathin optical panel, are disclosed, including staking a plurality of glass sheets (10a), which sheets may be coated with a transparent cladding substance or may be uncoated, fastening together the plurality of stacked coated glass sheets (10a) using an epoxy or ultraviolet adhesive, applying uniform pressure to the stack, curing the stack, sawing the stack to form an inlet face (20) on a side of the stack and an outlet face (24) on an opposed side of the stack, bonding a coupler (16) to the inlet face of the stack, and fastening the stack, having the coupler (16) bonded thereto, within a rectangular housing having an open front which is aligned with the outlet face (24), the rectangular housing (14) having therein a light generator (12) which is optically aligned with the coupler (16). The light generator (12) is preferably placed parallel to and proximate with the inlet face (20), thereby allowing for a reduction in the depth of the housing (14).

L'invention concerne un panneau optique ultramince (10) et un procédé de production d'un panneau optique ultramince consistant à empiler une pluralité de plaques de verre (10a) lesquelles plaques peuvent être revêtues d'une substance de revêtement transparente ou peuvent être non revêtues, à fixer ensemble la pluralité de plaques de verre (10) empilées revêtues au moyen d'un adhésif époxide ou ultraviolet, à appliquer une pression uniforme sur la pile, à durcir la pile, à scier la pile pour former une face d'entrée (20) sur un côté de la pile et une face de sortie (24) sur un côté opposé de la pile, à fixer un coupleur (16) à la face d'entrée de la pile et à fixer la pile, à laquelle est fixé le coupleur (16), dans un coffret rectangulaire ayant un avant ouvert aligné avec la face de sortie (24), le coffret rectangulaire (14) contenant un générateur (12) de lumière lequel est aligné optiquement avec le coupleur (16). Le générateur (12) de lumière est de préférence placé parallèlement à et à proximité de la face d'entrée (20), permettant ainsi une réduction de la profondeur du coffret (14).
