A fully automated package identification and measuring system (300), in which an onmidirectional holographic scanning tunnel (100) is used to read bar codes on packages entering the tunnel, while a package dimensioning subsystem (500, 600) is used to capture information about the package prior to entry into the tunnel. Mathematical models are created on a real-time basis for the geometry of the package and the position of the laser scanning beam used to read the bar code symbol thereon. The mathematical models are analyzed to determine if collected and queued package identification data is spatially and/or temporally correlated with package measurement data using vector-based ray-tracing methods, homogeneous transformations, and object-oriented decision logic so as to enable simultaneous tracking of multiple packages being transported through the scanning tunnel.
La présente invention concerne une identification d'emballages complètement automatisée et un système de mesure (300), dans lesquels on utilise un tunnel d'exploration (100) par balayage holographique omnidirectionnel pour lire des code barres sur des emballages qui entrent dans ce tunnel, tandis qu'on utilise un sous système (500, 600) de dimensionnement d'emballage pour capturer des informations relatives à l'emballage préalablement à son entrée dans le tunnel. On crée en temps réel des modèles mathématiques traitant de la géométrie de l'emballage et de la position du faisceau d'exploration laser prise pour lire les symboles du code barres figurant sur cet emballage. On analyse les modèles mathématiques de façon à déterminer si les données d'identification des emballages collectés et placés dans une file d'attente sont corrélées dans l'espace et/ou dans le temps avec des données de mesure des emballages obtenues par des techniques de lancer de rayon fondées sur des vecteurs, par des transformations homogènes, par logique de décision orientée objet de façon à permettre un suivi simultané de multiples emballages transportés à travers ce tunnel d'exploration.
