The loss in delivered capacity (fade) after cycling non-aqueous rechargeable lithium batteries can be reduced by incorporating a cathode powder with LiCoO2 type- structure that has been mixed and heat-treated with a small amount of lithium borate. The invention is particularly suited to lithium ion batteries.
