23968-400 ABSTRACT Disclosed is a vacuum cleaner of the type having a receiving drum which is closed by a cover containing the drive motor and the suction fan. Vacuum cleaners of this type have a high centre of gravity and tend to tip over easily when the suction hose is moved, the hose being attached to a suction connection on the cover. Movement of the vacuum cleaner also loads the bearings and carbon brushes of the motor. A suction connection located in the cover is constructed as an angular connection, one section for the connection of the suction hose lying approximately radially with respect to the longitudinal central axis of the vacuum cleaner and another section leading approximately vertically into the receiving drum at a distance from the longitudinal central axis of the vacuum cleaner. To reduce the aforementioned problems, the other section of the angular connection, according to the present invention, is held close to the central axis in a radially open compartment of the cover so that it is able to tilt vertically as well as horizontally.
