A valve device (2.1) of an application device for applying fluid to a substrate comprises a valve body (15.1), a valve housing (4.1) with an internal space (8.1) and valve seat (41.1), a fluid supply chamber (1 1.1), an electromagnetic valve-actuating device (5.1) with a valve piston (51.1), and an adjusting piston (61.1). The valve nozzle (3.1) is fastened releasably to the nozzle side (12.1) of the valve device (2.1). The valve device (2.1) has a nozzle plate (121.1) which downwardly terminates the valve body (15.1) on the nozzle side and has an installation opening (13.1) for the valve body (51.1). The valve housing (4.1) is designed in the form of a nozzle closure diaphragm which is a closure part (14.1) which can be fitted on and removed from the installation opening (13.1) from below. The valve nozzle (3.1) is part of the valve housing (4.1). When the closure part (14.1) is removed, the valve piston (51.1) is released through the installation opening (13.1) of the nozzle plate (121.1) for removal and installation. The valve device (2.1) is provided with at least one fluid duct (7.1) which runs rectilinearly and connects the fluid supply chamber (1 1.1) to the valve seat (41.1). The valve piston (51.1) and part of the adjusting piston (61.1) together form a wall (71.1) of the rectilinear fluid duct (7.1) which, when the nozzle-closure-diaphragm closure part (14.1) is removed, is released for cleaning through the installation opening (13.1). An application device (1) comprises a series arrangement of the valve devices (21).
