Between a lens of a collimator and a retro-reflector as a total reflecting element, a prism, a polarizer, a Faraday rotator and a linear retarder are arranged in that order. A core/clad section serving as an input port of the collimator has its optical axis coincident with an optical axis of the lens. When a light exiting the collimator reaches the retro-reflector, the light is reflected, so that the incoming beam and the outgoing beam are parallel to each other, spaced by a given distance Y. The returning light, which is refracted by the prism, is incident on the core/clad section, serving as an output port of the collimator.
