A plastic encapsulated VCSEL and power monitoring system wherein the VCSEL and photodetector are encapsulated in an optoelectronic plastic molding material. A tilted window, with a partially reflective coating on one side, is attached to the top of the plastic molding material using an epoxy with a refractive index that substantially matches the molding material. The plastic encapsulated VCSEL and photodetector may be manufactured at low cost using standard molding techniques. The high optical quality of the tilted window and partially reflective coating provide an excellent surface to reflect a portion of the optical beam back to the photodetector. Also, the tilted window substantially reduces inconsistent power monitoring due to beam divergence and walk-off.
L'invention concerne un laser à cavité verticale et à émission par la surface (VCSEL) à encapsulation plastique et un système de contrôle de puissance, le VCSEL et le photodétecteur sont encapsulés dans une matière plastique et opto-électronique pouvant être moulée. Une fenêtre inclinée, comprenant un revêtement partiellement réfléchissant sur un côté, est reliée à la partie supérieure de la matière plastique pouvant être moulée à l'aide d'une résine époxy présentant un indice de réfraction qui s'adapte, en grande partie, à la matière pouvant être moulée. Le VCSEL et le photodétecteur encapsulés peuvent être fabriqués à moindre coût en utilisant les techniques classiques du moulage. L'excellente qualité optique de la fenêtre inclinée et le revêtement partiellement réfléchissant fournissent une excellente surface pour réfléchir une partie du faisceau optique vers le photodétecteur. De plus, la fenêtre inclinée permet de réduire en partie le contrôle de puissance contradictoire causé par la divergence des faisceaux et par leur décrochage.
