A finial for a lighting fixture has finial apertures therein to allow heat to escape from the lighting fixture. The lighting fixture has a light source. The finial has a base mounted on the top of the lighting fixture and finial apertures are in fluid communication with the heat generated by the light source,. The finial has a protective portion having an upper protective surface facing upwardly and extending downwardly and radially outwardly and a lower protective surface spaced from the upper protective surface of the finial. The finial apertures are positioned in the finial adjacent to and spaced from the lower protective surface of the finial.
