A method and apparatus are disclosed for treating a condition of a patient's heart includes placing a first electrode and a second electrode in a right ventricle of the heart. A reference electrode is placed within the patient and internal or external to the heart. A pacing signal is generated including a first signal component, a second signal component and a reference component with the first and second signal components having opposite polarity and with both of the first and second components having a potential relative to the reference component. The first component is transmitted to the first electrode. The second component is transmitted to the second electrode. The reference electrode is connected to the reference component which may be an electrical ground. The pacing signal and the placement of the electrodes are selected to alter a contraction of a left ventricle of the heart.

L~invention concerne un procédé et un appareil de traitement d~un trouble cardiaque d~un patient, consistant à placer une première électrode et une deuxième électrode dans le ventricule cardiaque droit. Une électrode de référence est placée dans le corps du patient, à l~intérieur ou à l~extérieur du cAEur. Un signal de stimulation est généré et incorpore une première composante de signal, une deuxième composante de signal et une composante de référence, les première et deuxième composantes de signal étant de polarités opposés et possédant un certain potentiel par rapport à la composante de référence. La première composante de signal est transmise à la première électrode. La deuxième composante de signal est transmise à la deuxième électrode. L~électrode de référence est reliée à la composante de référence, qui peut être une masse électrique. Le signal de stimulation et les positions des électrodes sont choisis de façon à modifier la contraction du ventricule gauche du cAEur.
