A virtual bearer channel platform (150) includes a plurality of transaction processing units (161-164). Each transaction processing unit processes one or more service requests received as a call on a bearer channel. The call data is distributed to individual transaction processing units using a high-speed network such as a SONET-type network (215). In one embodiment, the standard SONET format is modified to eliminate fields which contain data of no significance to the present environment. In another embodiment, the standard SONET format, itself, is used. The platform includes a resource manager for allocating the newly received calls to individual transaction processing units. The resource manager (560) sets up outbound calls when requested by a transaction processing unit. A gateway interfaces (550) with the resource manager and the external communication network for assisting in call setup in both inbound and outbound directions.
L'invention concerne une plate-forme (150) à canaux supports virtuels comprenant une pluralité d'unités de traitement de transactions (TPU) (161-164). Chaque TPU traite une ou plusieurs demandes de service reçues sous forme d'un appel sur un canal support. Les données de l'appel sont distribuées à chacune des unités de traitement de transactions au moyen d'un réseau grande vitesse tel qu'un réseau de type SONET (215). Selon un mode de réalisation, le format SONET normalisé est modifié pour éliminer les champs renfermant des données non significatives dans l'environnement présent. Selon un autre mode de réalisation, on utilise directement le format SONET normalisé. La plate-forme comporte un gestionnaire de ressources permettant de répartir des appels nouvellement reçus entre chacune des unités de traitement de transactions. Le gestionnaire (560) de ressources établit des appels sortants lorsqu'une unité de traitement transactionnel le demande. Une passerelle sert d'interface (550) entre le gestionnaire de ressources et le réseau de communication extérieur et aide à l'établissement d'appels, qu'ils soient sortants ou entrants.
