ABSTRACT A voltage controlled diode attenuator includes first and second diodes connected in series such that conducting directions thereof coincide with each other and a first resistor one end of which is connected to the first diode. A predetermined dc bias voltage is applied to the first and second diodes connected in series via the first resistor using a circuit comprising a differential amplifier having first and second input terminals and an output terminal connected to the other end of the first resistor, a reference voltage source connected to the first input terminal, and a negative feedback loop for connecting the junction of the first diode and the one end of the first resistor to the second input terminal. A variable control voltage is applied to the junction of the first and second diodes via a second resistor. A high frequency signal is applied to the junction of the first and second diodes. The input impedance of the attenuator is maintained constant despite changes in attenuation.
