A process of manufacturing at least a portion of a plaster-based water resistant construction element including the steps of :mixing together a dry material comprising at least a major portion of hydratable calcium sulfate, a water repellency agent, and hydrating water to form a homogenous mixture; preforming in the wet state the said portion of said construction element, from said homogeneous mixture; drying the said preformed portion in order to obtain a formed portion in the solid, dry state; and heating said formed portion for a predetermined time in an enclosure with a moist atmosphere and at a controlled temperature which is lower than that which causes, in any zone of the element or portion, a dehydration of the hydrated calcium sulfate.
