Wet barrel fire hydrants (10) which feature additional structure for reducing the potential that those with ill intent can foul municipal water supplies by- introducing toxins or other materials into fire hydrants. Various embodiments include valves which close off portions of the hydrant or water conduit otherwise available for receipt of toxic or other materials when the fire hydrant nozzle cap is unscrewed and open and/or a pump is connected to the nozzle (14). Such valves preferably open automatically when water is flowing from the water supply through the nozzle (14), but close off portions of the barrel when the nozzle (14) is open and water is not flowing through the nozzle (14).

L'invention concerne des bornes d'incendie sous eau (10) pourvues d'une structure supplémentaire permettant de réduire les possibilités pour des individus mal intentionnés de souiller les eaux municipales en introduisant des toxines ou autres substances dans les bornes d'incendie. Divers modes de réalisation concernent des vannes servant à obturer des parties de la borne ou de la conduite d'eau qui pourraient permettre l'introduction de toxines ou autres substances lorsque le bouchon de prise est dévissé et ouvert et/ou lorsqu'une pompe est reliée au bec (14). Ces vannes s'ouvrent de préférence automatiquement lorsque l'eau s'écoule à travers le bec (14) et elles obturent des parties de la colonne lorsque le bec (14) est ouvert mais que l'eau ne s'y écoule pas.
