ABSTRACT Yarn feeding apparatus for knitting machine in which a rotary cap driven by a motor is provided at the top of a storage drum, and optionally an idle pulley may also be provided adjacently to the lower portion of driving wheel and simultaneously shifting mechanism for shifting the driving belt alternatively to either driving wheel or idle pulley, so that the driving of the machine is stopped in case when an abnormal tension is imparted to a feeding yarn and also shifting to either constant feeding or free feeding of yarn is possible to be executed automatically. According to the invention, automation is possible for work for forming the yarn loop on the storage drum without requiring to execute manual operation one by one by an operator as usual, therefore it has effect capable of preventing a badness of knittings causing the cutting off of yarn, it serves for the automation of knitting machine that constant feeding and free feeding of yarn are simply and conveniently executed.
