A thin film phosphor for an electroluminescent device, the phosphor being selected from the group consisting of thioaluminates, thiogallates and thioindates having at least one cation selected from elements of Groups IIA and IIB of the Periodic Table of Elements. The phosphor being activated by a rare earth metal and containing a Group IIIB element as a partial substitute for a portion of aluminum, gallium or indium of said thiogallate, thioindate and thioaluminate. The phosphor provides improved luminance. An electroluminescent device comprising the thin film phosphor on a substrate is also described.

L'invention concerne un luminophore sous forme de film fin pour un dispositif électroluminescent que l'on sélectionne dans le groupe constitué de thioaluminates, de thiogallates et de thioindates ayant au moins un cation sélectionné dans les éléments des groupes IIA et IIB de la table périodique des éléments. Le luminophore est activé par un métal des terres rares et contient un élément du groupe IIIB comme substituant partiel pour une fraction d'aluminium, de gallium ou d'indium dudit thiogallate, thioindate et thioaluminate. Le luminophore assure une meilleure luminance. Fait également l'objet de cette invention un dispositif électroluminescent comprenant le luminophore sous forme de film fin sur un substrat.
