- 7 - Abstract of the Disclosure A clamp assembly for effecting essentially zero gas leakage between the ends of overlapping or telescoped tubes. The assembly has at least one clamping strand preformed with overlapping ends (e.g., at least one and one-half overlapping spiraled loops) of the strand terminating substantially on a chord of said loop, the strand is a flat metal band having a uniform rectangular cross-section with an aspect ratio of width to height of at least five. A pair of lugs extend generally radially outwardly from the loop, each attached to a different end of said strand; the lugs are aligned along a line that is outside the loops and is parallel to such chord of the loop passing through the strand ends. A threaded member extends between the lugs effective to draw said strand ends together along said line thereby shrinking the loop to effect a full 360° sealing about said telescoped tubes.
