Abstract The invention relates to a fibrillation device for the manufacture of mineral wool. According to known technology the mineral wool melt runs down onto the peripheral surface of a spinning wheel from which the melt is thrown further to the following (3) and from there to the following spinning wheel. There are commonly four spinning wheels. As a result of the centri- fugal force the melt is thrown out in the form of fibres which are subjected to a strong blast of air, the purpose of which is to cool the fibres before binder is added to them and to transport them to the receiving conveyor. The stream of air is conducted through an air gap (7) which is furnished with oblique guide vanes in order to impart to the stream of fibres an axial and tangential velocity com- ponent in the direction of rotation. According to the invention the air gap (7) is so formed as to impart to the stream of fibres a radial velocity com- ponent directed outwards in addition to a tangential velo- city component in the direction of rotation. By this means the air stream meets the peripheral surface of the spinning wheel at an oblique angle and forms a conically shaped curtain around the peripheral surface of the spinning wheel. The oblique air blast is gentler to the fibre formation in progress and it does not cool down the melt ring (6), which promotes the fibre formation and reduces the formation of beads.
