ABSTRACT: A method of producing preforms for drawing optical fibres consists in depositing by means of a non- isothermal plasma activated C.V.D. process core glass and cladding glass onto a starting member which is moved from the deposition chamber at a rate which is the same as the growth rate. An arrangement for drawing fibres simultaneously with the formation of the preform is des- cribed.
