A buccal dosage unit (2) is provided for administering a combination of steroidal active agents to a female individual. The novel buccal drug delivery systems may be used in female hormone replacement therapy, in female contraception, to treat female sexual dysfunction, and to treat or prevent a variety of conditions and disorders which are responsive to the active agents discussed herein. The buccal dosage unit (2) comprises a progestin, an estrogen and optionally an androgenic agent, as well as a polymeric carrier that bioerodes and provides for delivery of the active agents throughout a predetermined drug delivery period.
L'invention se rapporte à une unité posologique pour l'administration par voie buccale, à un sujet femelle, d'une combinaison d'agents actifs à base de stéroïdes. Ces nouveaux systèmes d'administration de médicaments par voie buccale peuvent être utilisés en hormonothérapie substitutive chez la femme, pour la contraception féminine, pour le traitement des dysfonctionnements sexuels de la femme et pour traiter ou prévenir une variété de maladies et troubles qui réagissent auxdits agents actifs. Ladite unité posologique (2) pour administration par voie buccale contient une progestine, un oestrogène et éventuellement un agent androgène, ainsi qu'un excipient polymère qui se décompose biologiquement et assure l'administration de ces agents actifs pendant une période d'administration médicamenteuse préétablie.
