The inventive composition, according to a first embodiment, consists essentially of a cerium oxide and a zirconium oxide in an atomic ratio Ce/Zr of at least 1. According to a second embodiment, said composition is based on cerium oxide, zirconium oxide with an atomic ratio Ce/Zr of at least 1 and at least one rare earth oxide other than cerium. After calcination at 1100 ·C, said composition has a specific surface of at least 9 m2/g in the first embodiment and at least 19 m2/g in the second embodiment. The inventive composition can be used as a catalyst especially for the treatment of waste gases from internal combustion engines.
La composition de l'invention, selon un premier mode de réalisation, consiste essentiellement en un oxyde de cérium et en un oxyde de zirconium dans un rapport atomique Ce/Zr d'au moins 1. Selon un second mode de réalisation, cette composition est ô base d'un oxyde de cérium, d'un oxyde de zirconium dans un rapport atomique Ce/Zr d'au moins 1 et d'au moins un oxyde d'une terre rare autre que le cérium. Après calcination ô 1100~C, elle présente une surface spécifique d'u moins 9 m2/g dans le cas du premier mode et d'au moins 19 m2/g dans le cas du second. La composition de l'invention peut être utilisée comme catalyseur notamment pour le traitement des gaz d'échappement des moteurs ô combustion interne.
