A method of producing a covered optical fiber (21) comprising the steps of drawing a glass fiber (13) after heating and softening one end of an optical fiber base material (11), applying coating (16, 19) onto the glass fiber (13), letting the covered optical fiber (21) pass through a periodically swinging guide roller (23) to twist the covered optical fiber (21), and thereby imparting the glass fiber (13) inside the covered optical fiber (21) twisting around the axis, wherein the covered optical fiber (21) passed through the guide roller (23) is allowed to pass through a free section (26 through 27) permitting a free turning on the axis to thereby offset longitudinally an elastic torsion accumulated when the covered optical fiber (21) is alternately reversed in its longitudinal twisting directions, a length (L) (m) of the free section being at least Lo (m) defined by Lo (m)= (maximum production line speed (m/min))/(number of back-and-forth swings per unit time of swinging guide roller (number/min)).

Une méthode de production d'une fibre optique couverte (21) comprenant les étapes d'étirement d'une fibre de verre (13) après chauffage et ramollissement de l'une des extrémités d'un matériau de base de fibre optique (11), d'application de revêtement (16, 19) sur la fibre de verre (13), de faire passer la fibre optique couverte (21) au travers d'un galet guide oscillant périodiquement (23) de façon à torsader la fibre optique couverte (21), et ainsi imprimer à la fibre de verre (13) à l'intérieur de la fibre optique couverte (21) un mouvement de torsade autour de l'axe, ce qui fait que la fibre optique couverte (21) passée par le galet guide (23) est admise à traverser une section libre (26 à 27), ce qui permet une rotation libre sur l'axe de façon à décaler longitudinalement une torsion élastique accumulée lorsque la fibre optique couverte (21) est alternativement inversée dans ses directions de torsade longitudinal, une longueur (L) (m) de la section libre étant d'au moins Lo (m) tel que Lo (m)= (vitesse maximale de la logne de production (m/mn))/(nombre d'aller-et-retour d'oscillation par unité de temps du galet guide oscillant (nombre/mn).
