Process for making lower aliphatic ester, especially ethyl acetate, by reacting a lower olefin with a saturated lower aliphatic mono-carboxylic acid in the vapor phase using a heteropolyacid catalyst, wherein the reaction pressure is 11 to 20 barg (1100 to 2000 KPa), more preferably 12 to 15 barg (1200 to 1500 KPa). The reaction temperature is 140 to 250~C, more preferably 160 to 195~C. The process reduces the level of by-products, for example methyl ethyl ketone and/or acetaldehyde.

L'invention concerne un procédé de fabrication d'esters aliphatiques inférieurs, notamment de fabrication d'éthylacétate, par réaction d'une oléfine inférieure avec un acide monocarboxylique aliphatique inférieur saturé en phase vapeur, à l'aide d'un catalyseur hétéropolyacide, la pression de réaction étant de 11 à 20 barg (1100 à 2000 KPa), de préférence de 12 à 15 barg (1200 à 1500 KPa). La température de réaction est de 140 à 250 ·C, de préférence de 160 à 195 ·C. le procédé selon l'invention permet de réduire le taux de produits secondaires, par exemple de méthyléthylcétone et/ou d'acétaldéhyde.
