Mo3397 LeA 26,977 COMPOSITIONS WHICH ARE SUITABLE AS BINDERS FOR COATING OR SEALING COMPOSITIONS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to compositions suitable for use as binders in coating or sealing compositions which contain A) 30 to 99 parts by weight of a copolymer component containing at least one copolymer which is prepared from olefinically unsaturated compounds, has a molecular weight (Mw) of about 1,500 to 75,000 and contains in chemically bound form both i) 0.2 to 6.0 percent by weight of free hydroxyl groups and ii) 1 to 30 percent by weight of carboxylic acid anhydride groups (calculated as C4H2O3), and B) 1 to 70 parts by weight of an epoxide component containing at least one organic polyepoxide having at least two epoxide groups per molecule, provided that 0.2 to 8 epoxide groups of component B) are present for each anhydride group of component A). The present invention also relates to the use of these compositions as binders for thermosetting coating compositions or, in the presence of catalysts, as binders for coating compositions which are hardenable at room temperature.
