A flexible hydrophilic coating on a device which is to contact body fluid and particularly for flexible substrates on intracorporeal devices such as balloons on dilatation catheters. The coating includes at least 30 % of a copolymer of a hydrophilic monomer and a plasticizer monomer. A presently preferred hydrophilic monomer is acrylamide and the presently preferred plasticizer monomer is methoxy (polyethylene glycol) mono methacrylate where the polyethylene glycol moiety has a molecular weight of about 1000. Other hydrophilic polymers, such as n-vinyl pyrrolidone, may also be incorporated into the coating. Both polymers are treated to attach latent photoactive groups to facilitate the bonding thereof to a substrate.

Revêtement hydrophile souple placé sur un dispositif destiné à venir en contact avec un liquide biologique et en particulier pour substrats souples faisant partie de dispositifs intracorporels tels que des ballonnets sur un cathéter de dilatation. Ledit revêtement comprend au moins 30 % d'un copolymère d'un monomère hydrophile et d'un monomère plastifiant. Un monomère hydrophile actuellement préféré est l'acrylamide, et le monomère plastifiant actuellement préféré est le méthoxy (polyéthylène-glycol) monométhacrylate dans lequel la fraction polyéthylène-glycol possède un poids moléculaire d'environ 1.000. D'autres polymères hydrophiles, tels que la n- vinylpyrrolidone, peuvent également être incorporés dans ledit revêtement. Ces deux polymères sont traités de sorte qu'ils se lient à des groupes photoactifs latents et facilitent l'adhésion desdits polymères à un substrat.
