A crucible for preparing semi-solid metallic slurry, having a liquid phase and a solids phase. The crucible has a side wall having a lower edge, a closing plate engagable against and separable from the lower edge of the side wall and clamping means for holding the closing plate against the lower edge of the side wall. Also taught is a method of preparing semi-solids slurry. The method involves providing a crucible having a side wall with a lower edge and a closing plate and holding the closing plate in contact with the lower edge of the side wall. Next, the crucible is filled with a molten metal and the molten metal is cooled to produce a semi-solid slurry. Finally, the lower edge of the side wall is release from contact with the closing plate and the semi-solid slurry is transferred from the side wall to a casting machine.
L'invention a trait à un creuset permettant de préparer un émail métallique semi-solide, passant par une phase liquide et une phase solide. Le creuset présente une paroi latérale disposant d'un bord inférieur, un plateau de fermeture pouvant s'engager contre le bord inférieur de la paroi latérale et s'en séparer et un moyen de serrage permettant de maintenir le plateau de fermeture contre le bord inférieur de la paroi latérale. Il est également enseigné un procédé de préparation d'un émail semi-solide. Le procédé implique d'apporter un creuset disposant d'une paroi latérale avec un bord inférieur et un plateau de fermeture et de maintenir le plateau de fermeture en contact avec le bord inférieur de la paroi latérale. Le creuset est ensuite rempli d'un métal fondu, lequel est refroidi pour produire un émail semi-solide. Enfin, le bord inférieur de la paroi latérale est libéré du contact avec le plateau de fermeture et l'émail semi-solide est transféré de la paroi latérale à une machine de moulage.
