A container made of, e.g., polyethylene terephthalate is pulverized and degraded in the presence of a catalyst using a solvent, e.g., an alcohol or glycol, to obtain a crude bishydroxyalkyl terephthalate. The crude bishydroxyalkyl terephthalate is purified by filtration, a treatment with activated carbon, and a treatment with an ion-exchange resin. The bishydroxyalkyl terephthalate thus obtained is condensed to produce a container or another molding of polyethylene terephthalate.

Selon cette invention, un réceptacle fabriqué dans un téréphtalate de polyéthylène est pulvérisé et dégradé en présence d'un catalyseur au moyen d'un solvant tel qu'un alcool ou un glycol afin d'obtenir un téréphtalate bishydroxyalkyle brut. Le téréphtalate bishydroxyalkyle brut est purifié par filtration, par un traitement au charbon actif et un traitement avec une résine échangeuse d'ions. Le téréphtalate bishydroxyalkyle ainsi obtenu est condensé pour produire un réceptacle ou autre moule en téréphtalate de polyéthylène.
