A method of socketing a pipe of oriented plastic having an annular groove inside the socket. An end portion (15) of the pipe is pushed onto a cylindrical mandrel element (11) and the region (l 1) of the end portion at the opening thereof where the groove is to be located is heated to a temperature above the glass transition temperature of amorphous plastic and the crystalline melting point of crystalline plastic, respectively. The rest of the end portion is maintained at a temperature below the glass transition temperature or the crystalline melting point, respectively. The end portion (15) when said region is at a temperature above the glass transition temperature or the crystalline melting point, respectively, is pushed onto a second mandrel element (13) axially aligned with said first mandrel element the bottom portion of the socket being formed by said second mandrel element (13). The rest of the end portion is expanded to form the bottom portion of the socket. The end portion of the pipe is cooled and is then withdrawn from the mandrel elements.

L'invention concerne un procédé pour manchonner un tuyau en plastique orienté, une gorge circulaire étant formée à l'intérieur du manchon. Une extrémité (15) du tuyau est poussée sur un élément mandrin cylindrique (11), et la zone (l1) de l'extrémité au niveau de l'ouverture de laquelle on veut former la gorge circulaire est chauffée à une température qui dépasse respectivement la température de transition vitreuse du plastique amorphe et le point de fusion cristallin du plastique cristallin. On maintient le reste de l'extrémité à une température respectivement moins élevée que la température de transition vitreuse et le point de fusion cristallin. Lorsque la zone considérée atteint une température respectivement supérieure à la température de transition vitreuse ou au point de fusion cristallin, l'extrémité (15) est poussée sur un second élément mandrin (13), dans l'axe du premier élément de mandrin, et la partie inférieure du manchon est formée au moyen de ce second élément de mandrin (13). La partie restante de l'extrémité est expansée en vue de donner sa forme à la partie inférieure du manchon. Enfin, l'extrémité du tuyau est refroidie puis retirée des éléments mandrins.
