ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A direct process for the production of a printing ink base consists essentially of the steps of reacting the starting ingredients for a pigment in an agitated vessel to obtain a product that contains pigment in mother liquor, placing the product in a high horsepower, high shear mixer to transfer the pigment from the aqueous phase to a non-aqueous phase, and while the material is still in the mixer, adding the necessary ingredients to make a printing ink base that can further be formulated into a printing ink.
