A non-liquid electrolyte containing electrochemical cell which operates efficiently at room temperature. The cell includes: (a) a non-liquid electrolyte (14) in which protons are mobile; (b) an anode (10) including an active material based on an organic compound which is a source of protons during cell discharge; and (c) a solid cathode (12) including a compound which forms an electrochemical couple with the anode. The acitve materials can be chosen so that the cell has the feature that the electrochemical reactions at the anode and cathode are at least partially reversible. An important feature of the cell is that no thermal activation is required for its operation. Therefore, the cell efficiently operates under ambient temperatures.

Cellule électrochimique contenant un électrolyte non liquide, efficace à température ambiante. La cellule comprend: (a) un électrolyte non liquide (14) à protons mobiles; (b) une anode (10) comportant un matériau actif dont la base est un composé organique représentant une source de protons pendant la décharge et (c) une cathode solide (12) comprenant un composé formant un couple électrochimique avec l'anode. On peut sélectionner les matériaux actifs de telle manière que la cellule ait pour caractéristique une réversibilité au moins partielle des réactions électrochimiques à l'anode et à la cathode. Une caractéristique importante de cette cellule est que son fonctionnement ne nécessite aucune activation thermique, ce qui permet à cette cellule de fonctionner de manière efficace à température ambiante.
