ABSTRACT Extrusion die for the extrusion of a ceramic mater- ial into honeycombed bodies. Extrusion dies having different design features are used for the production of honeycombed bodies. The precision of the honeycombed bodies is often inadequate. The honeycombed bodies may break prematurely and thus become useless. The novel extrusion die allows low-stress extrusion of ceramic masses into uniform honeycombed bodies of high quality. The two-part extrusion die consists of a one-piece main body, with inlet passages and outlet slits, and a frame. The axis of an inlet passage passes through the centre of a section of the outlet slits; each section of the outlet slits is assigned an inlet passage. The outlet slits may be widened at their inner end. The extrusion die of the present invention allows for production of honeycombed bodies from a mouldable ceramic mass of oxidic and/or non-oxidic materials for use as filters, heat exchangers, sound insulation material, heat insulation material, catalyst support or solid catalyst.
