ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a process for the preparation and preservation of a protein containing mass having 15 to 45 per cent dry-matter obtained from the by-products of slaughter-houses, of the leather processing and food industry and/or from perished farm animals as well as for the preparation of foodstuffs, in the course of which the proteins are subjected to the action of a proteolytic enzyme to obtain a thin protein- containing suspension, adding to the thin suspension gelatinized starch, amylolytic enzymes and a lactic acid producing culture and conducting an anaerobic fermentation which will preserve the protein-containing mass. The preserved suspension may be used directly for feeding farm animals or it can be transformed into a product suitable for feeding both useful and pet animals by pre-concentrating and mixing it with other foodstuffs, and if required by the addition of fungicides.
